Polyethylene (PE) is a lightweight, versatile synthetic resin made from the polymerization of ethylene monomers.12 It is a member of the important polyolefin resin family, and is the most widely used plastic in the world.12 Polyethylene can be made into products ranging from clear food packaging and shopping bags, to detergent bottles and automobile fuel tanks.12 It can also be cut or spun into synthetic fibers, or modified to have the elastic properties of rubber12.
