Polyvinyl chloride, abbreviated as PVC (Polyvinyl chloride), is a polymer made by polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (vinyl chloride monomer, abbreviated as VCM) in the initiator, such as peroxide, azo compounds, or under the action of light, heat, and according to the free radical polymerization reaction mechanism. Vinyl chloride homopolymer and vinyl chloride copolymer are collectively called vinyl chloride resin.


PVC is an amorphous structure of white powder, small degree of branching, relative density of 1.4 or so, the glass transition temperature of 77 ~ 90 ºC, 170 ºC or so began to decompose, the stability of light and heat is poor, above 100 ºC or after a long period of exposure to sunlight, it will decompose and produce hydrogen chloride, and further autocatalytic decomposition, causing discoloration, physical and mechanical properties also decline rapidly, in practical applications must add Stabilizers must be added to improve the stability of heat and light.

Industrial production of PVC molecular weight is generally in the range of 50,000 ~ 110,000, with a large polydispersity, molecular weight increases with the decrease in polymerization temperature; no fixed melting point, 80 ~ 85 ºC began to soften, 130 ºC into a viscoelastic state, 160 ~ 180 ºC began to change into a viscous flow state; have good mechanical properties, tensile strength of 60MPa or so, the impact strength of 5 ~ 10kJ / m2; there are Excellent dielectric properties.

01 Composition

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a polymer material that uses a chlorine atom to replace a hydrogen atom in polyethylene and is an amorphous polymer containing a small amount of crystalline structure. The structure of this material is as follows: [-CH2-CHCl-]n. PVC is a linear polymer in which most of the VCM monomers are linked in a head-tail structure. The carbon atoms are arranged in a sawtooth pattern and all atoms are linked by σ-bonds. All carbon atoms are sp3 hybridized.

02 Main classifications

According to the different applications, PVC can be divided into: general-purpose PVC resins, high polymerization PVC resins, and cross-linked PVC resins. General-purpose PVC resin is formed by the polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer under the action of an initiator; high polymerization PVC resin refers to the resin polymerized by adding a chain growth agent to the vinyl chloride monomer polymerization system; crosslinked PVC resin is the resin polymerized by adding a cross-linking agent containing dienophthalic and polypropylene to the vinyl chloride monomer polymerization system.

According to the vinyl chloride monomer to obtain the method to distinguish, can be divided into calcium carbide method, ethylene method and imported (EDC, VCM) monomer method (customary ethylene and imported monomer method collectively referred to as the ethylene method). According to the polymerization method, PVC can be divided into four major categories: suspension method of PVC, emulsion method of PVC, the body method of PVC, solution method of PVC.

Suspension polyvinyl chloride is the largest production of a variety, accounting for about 80% of the total output of PVC. Suspension PVC is divided into six models according to absolute viscosity: XS-1, XS-2......XS-6; XJ-1, XJ-2......, XJ-6.

The meaning of each letter in the model: X-suspension method; S-loose type; J-compact type.

According to the amount of plasticizer content, often PVC plasticene plastic is divided into: non-plasticized PVC, plasticizer content of 0; rigid PVC, plasticizer content of less than 10%; semi-rigid PVC, plasticizer content of 10-30%; soft PVC, plasticizer content of 30-70%; polyvinyl chloride paste plastics, plasticizer content of 80% or more.

Application

1. Polyvinyl chloride profiles
Profiles, profiles is China's largest consumption of PVC in the field, accounting for about 25% of the total consumption of PVC, mainly used for the production of doors and windows and energy-saving materials.
2.Polyvinyl chloride pipes and fittings
Among many PVC products, PVC pipes are the second largest consumption area, accounting for about 20% of its consumption. In our country, PVC pipe is developed earlier than PE pipe and PP pipe, with many varieties, excellent performance and wide range of use.
3. Polyvinyl chloride film
PVC film field of PVC consumption ranks third, accounting for about 10% or so. PVC and additives mixed, plasticized, the use of three-roller or four-roller calender made of transparent or colored film of a specified thickness, with this method of film processing, calendered film. It can also be cut and heat-laminated to process bags, raincoats, tablecloths, curtains, inflatable toys and so on. Wide transparent film can be used for greenhouses, plastic greenhouses and ground cover. The bi-directionally stretched film can be used for shrink-wrapping due to its heat-shrinkage property.
 

4.PVC rigid material and plate
PVC add stabilizers, lubricants and fillers, after mixing, with the extruder can be extruded in various caliber hard pipe, profiled pipe, corrugated pipe, used as downpipes, drinking water pipes, wire casing or stair handrails. The calendered sheets are overlapped and hot pressed to make various thicknesses of rigid sheets. The sheet can be cut into the required shape, and then welded into various chemical-resistant storage tanks, air ducts and containers with hot air using PVC welding rods.
5.PVC general soft goods
The use of extruders can be extruded into hoses, cables, wires, etc.; the use of injection molding machines with a variety of molds, can be made into plastic sandals, soles, slippers, toys, car parts, etc..
6.PVC foam products
Soft PVC mixing, add an appropriate amount of blowing agent to make sheet material, by foam molding for foam, can be used as foam slippers, sandals, insoles, and shockproof buffer packaging materials. It can also be used as low-foaming hard PVC sheet and profile based on extruder, which can be used instead of wood, and is a new type of building material.

7. Polyvinyl chloride consumer goods
